Last month I was finally able to release and sell the first batch of stamps from my 100 rubberstamp project from 2020. I'm feeling quite relieved because selling these babies have always been part of the plan. I knew in my heart of hearts they are meant to be let go and made available to those who can get creative with them. A lot of work goes into selling these stamps, in my opinion, simply because I refuse to sell them as is. The process includes mounting each of them on wood, testing their stamping quality, pricing them, actively promoting them on my personal page, packaging them Read More
From Our Windows At Night
A Poem & A Shadowbox You set fire to the freedom we builtWhile we're home protecting our youngYou threaten to shut us up, clamp us downBut we won't cower, we're not done From the kitchen counter, from the balcony,From the nursery and the nightstand,We will take our shots, write down our rights, our authority, our fightWe will launch our words into the darknessFrom our windows at nightWhile we sing our lullabiesLet our light burn ever so bright Because we won't stop speakingOur truths that you so terrorizeWe will sing if we have toDance, make art, write poems,Tell it to our Read More
Let’s Be Explorers Planner: A Closer Look
One of the things I love about beginning the year is that I get to use a brand new planner or journal. It's quite literally like starting off with a blank slate — fresh pages full of hope and possibility! And the act of setting up my pages and spreads, writing down my vision and goals for the year, plotting out important dates make facing the new year a little less daunting and a lot more exciting. There's something about seeing it all written down on paper that helps boost my confidence. This 2020, I'm so thrilled to be using Everyday Explorer Co's Let's Be Explorers undated planner, Read More
No 4 Craft For Christmas: Wrap With Scrap
This countdown would not be complete without gift wrapping! It's another reason why I love this season. I genuinely enjoy getting creative and resourceful with how I wrap our presents for Christmas! I think spending an extra few minutes on a package to add personality and thought really sends the message that you care, no matter how simple the gift inside is. There may be many opportunities to do creative gift wrapping throughout the year but Christmastime just feels really special. And because there are more things to wrap, there are also more chances to try new things. I actually Read More
No 10 Craft For Christmas: Festive Stamps
I've been busy with threadwork the past half year so I've really missed stamp carving. This is why I made it a point to include Christmas rubber stamps in our 12 Crafts for Christmas! These festive rubberstamps will be used in the next few weeks to make gift tags, greeting cards and to decorate wrappings. I'm loving the poinsettia stamp. Which one do you like best? 😊 Check out the rest of our craft projects in this countdown: No 12: TP Roll Advent Calendar No 11: Wreath Make Over Read More
On Courage, Creativity and Completing 100 Embroideries
On Oct 31st, I completed my 100th embroidery as a sweet ending to my 100 Day Project this year! I've been joining this creative challenge for five years now (but only four projects in total because one took almost two years to complete!) and every year has been such a big learning experience for me, helping me grow in courage, skill and creativity. It has definitely become a highlight of my year. It is never easy. I get lazy sometimes and I always reach a point when I question myself why I'm even putting myself through it. But no matter how long it takes (because I always go way beyond Read More
Art Fair 2019
I only had a couple of hours to spend at Art Fair PH this year. It definitely wasn't enough time to take in everything but I'm still glad I was able to go and have a good experience from it. Here are my favorites from this year's exhibits, dividing them into several categories that specifically speak to me. TEXTURE Texture, color, geometry, nuance -- there are many little details that pop out to me. I made sure to capture them all somehow. COLLAGE I am pleased to see many pieces created out of found objects and mixed media this year. I'm sure there has always been a Read More
Instax & Crafts: Felt Mistletoe
There are many stories and versions of how "kissing under the mistletoe" came to be. One of the more popular ones is how it was considered to be a symbol of good luck, friendship and love in Norse mythology which eventually developed into this custom familiar to us all. While I don't particularly subscribe to that custom (kiss under the mistletoe or have bad luck befall you), I do like having meaningful decor that are fun to make. So I came up with this super easy, inexpensive, no-sew felt mistletoe project that doubles as an Instax display, which you can make at home in a blitz if you'd Read More
Who to Bring to a Battle
I spent the last week working with this talented group of artists as they built their respective installations celebrating the culture of basketball in the Nike Battleforce Art Battle. I'd like to take a moment to talk about how these guys were selected for the project. When choosing the right group of artists to participate, I looked for a couple things. First is personality. What I was looking for specifically was characters that would interact well with one another. It's much like a good game of 3 on 3 street ball: what you want is guys who are fun to be around, but also can Read More
All The Different Things I Bleed
Despite of the short time I had left to work on my part in this piece (because crammer!) and suddenly deciding to change some things about it at the last minute, I very much enjoyed this project. I'm thrilled to share it with you! Let me quote Kayo's write-up about it on his Instagram post: This mixed media piece is the Carlos + Veronica contribution to Hidden Space's Halloween group show, "All Hallow Tide." Nica came up with the concept of working through collage, which is an ongoing theme in her work through 2018. We combined my current exploration with pens, typography, Read More
