I finally completed my 100 Day Project for this year and I enjoyed it so much that it makes me a little sad to end it. Like what I've mentioned many times before, I like playing along this activity because it pulls me out of my comfort zone and gives me an opportunity to creatively express myself. 100 Tiny Collages did just that and more. I never thought I'd be able to bring to surface so many thoughts and ideas in my head through it. It turned out be way more than just cutting up magazines and gluing pictures together. It was introspective, revelatory as well as comforting. Most of the Read More
Micro Scrapbooking with the Pioneer DIY Planner
One of my favorite things to do to unwind is memory keeping. I enjoy taking stock of things we've done as a family, places we've been to, our learning experiences and milestones. While I can't keep track of every single moment, I do my best to document what I can -- things I know my kids and I would love to remember a few years from now. I get a lot of questions from friends and online followers about how I'm able to religiously scrapbook and document family memories when I already have my hands full with responsibilities at home. I always say that it's something you choose to work for Read More
Every Detail Counts: An Afternoon at Heleyna
"Who are the people in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood..." is the song that comes to mind when the girls and I go on our little studio visits. In our own way, we are trying to learn about the different things that the people in our circle and community do to contribute beauty to others and help improve people's lives. The most recent studio trip we took was just dreamy. It was at Heleyna Bridal owned and run by the talented Janina Saspa. We met Janina at Kendo and she had, at one time or another, become playmates with the girls and I simply adore her work which I follow on Read More
Riso Printing with Bad Student
I often conduct workshops but very rarely do I get to be a participant these days. So I was really happy to have joined Bad Student's Risograph Workshop a few weeks back! Bad Student, founded by talented young local artists Pau Tiu and Dyam Gonzales, is the only art studio in the Philippines that provide full color Risograph services. It was a fun and interesting afternoon learning about the perks and indiosyncracies of said copy machine. In case you're not familiar, a Risograph is a high-volume copier released in the mid-eighties that uses real ink (unlike laser copiers or Xerox machines Read More
Best Mom
This weekend, we celebrate all Mothers. I made a stamp set for the occasion which I'm sharing with you! While making it, I really wanted to portray the tender loving care of a mom as well as friendship between her and her child. My children are still small but I do wish as they grow I develop a real friendship with them. I hope they always feel like they can tell me anything or trust me with anything. I definitely have my part to work on and each day gives me that opportunity. I hope all you moms get the love and honor you deserve this weekend but at the same time, may we also take Read More
P.S. Cafe at Harding Road, Singapore
Stunning location! Set next to the Singapore Botanical Gardens, this cafe's greenery is healthy and biodiverse. Well positioned mirrors reflect the greenery all around. Large bouquets of fresh flowers bring in the aromatics and complete the outdoor vibe even when in the air conditioning. There's harmony. Coffee was good but not stellar. However, a well designed menu of great food means that the dining experience is quite balanced. It was the perfect spot for a Saturday brunch to wind down from a very busy week. Read More
100 Days of Making
I'm happy to be part of this year's round of Elle Luna's #the100dayproject! It's my third time to play along and even if my last project took three times longer to complete (ikr?!?), I am not discouraged. Why, you say? It's because embarking on a daily creative activity like this one has done me so much good. #The100DayProject has allowed me to explore my artistry; challenged me to be creative with the time and materials available to me however limited; and let me discover and be inspired by many other artists and makers participating in the same project. Not only that, I also get to make Read More
Areté
It was Pablo Picasso who said, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." By dust, I would like to believe he meant the troubles and concerns brought on by daily responsibilities -- to step out of the monotony and allow ourselves to be inspired. It makes a lot of sense to me. That's why, along with mani-pedis and full body massages, I've considered art museum visits a self-care activity. And on my birthday a couple of weeks back, as a treat, I declared a "family art museum day" and visited the new creative hub of Ateneo University. It is called Areté, which, in Read More
