Here are five easy steps on how to make flowers using washi tape:
1 Prepare your materials. Aside from the Washi tapes (which you can order online at Paper Chic Studio. So many designs to choose from!), what you need are things you can easily find around the house: barbecue sticks or chopsticks, scotch tape, double sided tape or glue, scissors, cardboard
2 Cut a circular piece of cardboard. This will be the center of your flower so the size depends on how big or small you want it to be.
3 Cut a strip of washi tape at least 3 inches long. Stick one end on the circular piece of cardboard. Fold it into half and stick the other end of the washi tape on the other side of the cardboard.
4 Trim the edge of your washi petal. You can make it rounded, scalloped or sharp. Get creative! Repeat the same process around the cardboard until you’ve filled it with petals. You can even layer, it’s totally up to you.
5 Cut another circular piece of cardboard and use glue or double-sided tape to stick it on the centre of your flower, covering the edges of the petals. On the backside, use scotch tape to attach the barbecue stick. Make sure it’s secure. Cover the scotch tape with a strip of washi tape or you can also cut another piece of cardboard and paste it on
And there you go! A washi flower! You can make a bunch of them, put it in a vase, or as I have done, use them as cake decor. There are many possibilities. Go ahead, get washi creative!
