For Mother’s day, I decided to make small paintings for my Mom and my Mother in law. Both of them have been asking me for an artwork for some time now but I haven’t been confident enough to do it. I always feel like I need more practice or I don’t really know what I can paint that will be good enough.
Kayo said I should just do it and start small. Make something that is not so complex so I can make it really nice. Thanks to #The100DayProject, I have been able to practice sketching and drawing the last five weeks. So a few nights before Mother’s day, I decided to just go for it and make our dearest moms some paintings.
Flowers are always a good idea and I do enjoy drawing them. I made their favorite color the central theme for each painting, so for my mother in law who likes yellow, I painted a marigold, a daffodil and daisies. And for my Mom who is crazy about the colour violet — yes you guessed it — violets!
They’re simple but I made them as pretty as I could! I added semi-metallic backgrounds to both and I really like how they made the faces of the flowers pop out.
I gave them to my Moms with the promise of making them bigger and better ones in the future. I’m happy they liked the paintings and I hope it added a little more joy and charm to their special day.
And speaking of joy and charm, I just want to add how thankful I am for a delightfully spontaneous Mother’s Day I had last Sunday. We really didn’t plan on anything. We just decided to do things we liked to do and eat food we liked to eat. So that’s exactly how the day turned out — with waffles and coffee, playtime at the park with our kids, a plateful of sushi and a last minute trip to the nail spa! It was wonderful!
I hope all you Moms had a joyful and charming Mother’s Day celebration as well!
These flowers are very sweet and lovely. Great work for Mother’s day. Elegant work.
Thank you very much, Shelley! 🙂
