A couple of weeks ago, my friend, Berry, came over our shop to teach me and the girls how to make paper. I had seen her posts on Instagram of the beautiful speckled papers she has created at home on her own and I was smitten. I just had to ask her to show us how and it was so cool of her to have said yes. I was surprised that it wasn’t so difficult either! Given the proper tools, anybody can definitely do it.
I’m sure there are many different techniques to make paper but the system Berry came up with is simple, inexpensive and kid-friendly. We totally enjoyed it and loved how our papers turned out. We recycled assorted paper scraps, magazine and newspaper pages, as well as tea to create the texture and speckled effects.
These beautiful handmade papers are perfect for sending letters and to use for different craft projects. I’ve been using them to decorate my journal spreads and I love the character they add to my spreads.
We use up a lot of paper at home and just toss them out most of the time. This activity seems like a perfect solution to lessening our trash and making the most of the paper we own. It may take time and a lot of effort to make but that’s where its value and charm lies. The work can also be very meditative and relaxing which is part of the reason why I really enjoyed it.

I can’t wait to make more and to create with what we’ve already made. This has definitely taken my love for paper to a whole new level!
