“Of Miracle” (Christmas Collection 2015, 1 of 6)
Stretching some old legs, Nica and I decided to put together a friends and family collection of canvases for Christmas. It was a challenge because A) I had not worked on canvas for almost a decade; and B) we decided to match the individual works to the recipients' personalities/homes. This also posed yet another challenge: how do you put together a cohesive body of work for such a diverse group of people and homes? I'll be posting the finished works over the next couple of weeks and you can decide if we were able to meet the parameters we had set out for ourselves. This first piece is for my Read More
DIY Toys: The Workshop!
Yes, I'm finally holding a workshop! And it's going to be a fun and playful toy-making, arts and crafts session for parents and children! My daughters and I have become fond of making their own play things out of everyday discarded items at home. We've made several toys, decor for their room, even props and costumes. And aside from it being a creative expression for them (and me!), it's also a wonderful bonding experience every single time. Not only do they learn to put pieces together and make something out of nothing, they also get to learn and practice good values, such as Read More
DIY Toy: Window Charms
Butterfly, Butterfly by Peter Horacek is one of Summer and Emma's favorite books. It's a book about color, insects and nature with a surprise pop-up in the end. No wonder they love it so much! So when I was coming up with ideas for their next craft project, I thought this vibrant book would be a great inspiration. We made a mobile filled with many different ornaments to hang by their bedroom window, so I decided to call it window charms. Materials needed are the following: dried branch, poster paint, cardboard, beads, yarn, assorted ribbon and string, scissors, single hole Read More
No 9 Craft For Christmas: Christmas Themed Art Display
Several months back, Kayo and I put together a nail-free gallery wall on one of our apartment walls. All we used are clear stick-on hooks and small binder clips! It's a cheap and easy way to install art without having to drill holes on your wall and you have the liberty to change up the art anytime you feel like it. So this month, I decided to change our art display and make it Christmas themed! First, I put together the art I wanted to hang. Of course you could buy art if you'd like but I didn't spend anything for our display at all! I just looked in old calendars, magazines and Read More
No 11 Craft For Christmas: “Oh What Fun” Paper Mobile
This fun DIY paper mobile can be done with the help of your kids. If they're old enough to use scissors or know how to glue things together, there's a lot they can do to help. My Summer is still too young to do those things properly but I let her paint the paper I used to make the trinkets for the mobile. Here's how it's done: 1 Paint sheets of white paper or manila paper using classic red and green Christmas colors. One to two pieces of letter size paper will do for one mobile. But you can make as many as you like. There are no rules. Just have fun painting! 2 After the Read More
Arts & Crafts With Summer
The past month, Summer and I have been doing crafts together. In line with my resolve to become more intentional about teaching her new things through toddler play, I have come up with fun activities to do together, and most of it (so far) are simple art projects, using things available to us at home. I even made an activity planner so I can plot out things we could do and record things we have done. It's been a lot fun and really interesting. Summer has discovered glue and now loves gluing things together. She has also learned to name different colors and is currently learning to name Read More
It’s Raining Crafts!
It feels like Christmas! I'm so excited to use and experiment on these babies. What's on the table: No 6 flat and no 2 round sable paint brushes; rubber blocks in different sizes; Versacraft and Artnic stamp pads in cute, bright colors (two of them can be used on fabric!); Uni oil-based paint pens in silver and gold; MT washi tapes; rubber stamp carving tool set and a couple of paint brush tubes also in silver and gold. These last ones, I find very interesting because I've never used anything like them. They're basically paint brushes with paint already inside them. I think I have enough Read More

DIY Wednesday: Recycled Denim Coin Bank
The other day, I was looking for a piggy bank because I wanted to start saving spare change but I realized I didn’t own one! So I thought I’d make a quick art project out of it. I reclaimed a powdered milk tin can from our junk pile and chose one that wasn’t so old and rusty. To make it look nice, I decided to wrap it in style with denim. I’ve kept a stash of denim scraps from cutting pants into shorts last summer. I think there are many creative things you can do with them (Like last Christmas I wrapped presents in denim. See it here)! My denim covered coin back turned out to be very easy Read More
