There has been a huge upsurge of online classes all over the world in the last few months. As people hunker down in their houses and children end up having to do school from home, we all find ourselves scouring the world wide web for sites and services that will help us make our time at home worthwhile and keep our children occupied and educated. As someone who makes a living holding art events and physical craft workshops, the quarantine has definitely forced me to rethink how I do things, adjust and adapt to the times. I have more planning and adjusting to do but I'm so glad to have Read More
MAY: Objects and Stories with Betye Saar Part 2
In this second series of art activities inspired by Betye Saar, we work on whimsical projects using miscellaneous materials. These were a lot of fun for the kids to work on because they were given freedom to make use of almost anything they could find. PROJECT 3: BRIC-A-BRAC OUTDOOR MOBILE Materials: Sticks, string, random objects to hang such as dried flowers, fuzzy wires, muffin cups, bottle caps, felt, beads, bells, etc This project is similar to making an assemblage as it involves collecting objects to put together, but instead of building inside an empty box, they string them Read More
Februllage + Junk Journal
I found a fun excuse (not that I really needed one) to keep making collages last month when I discovered Februllage on Instagram. Februllage is a month-long collage-a-day challenge which is an initiative of The Scandinavian Collage Museum and The Edinburgh Collage Collective. Much like The 100 Day Project, it is an open-for-all creative community building activity except one that is specifically designed for collage artists and those interested in getting into collage art making. A calendar of prompts was provided at the beginning of the month for all interested participants to Read More

All The Christmas Fuss
For this year's Advent Calendar, I let the girls have complete artistic control. We used scrap cardboard and toilet paper rolls which they turned into a mini Christmas village with trees, houses, shops, lamp posts and cars -- so cute! The very last, for the 25th day, is a little nativity scene. Then I was the one who came up with each day's surprise or activity. Kayo and I were away on a trip last week so we haven't been able to open them up with them. Now we're back and the kids are happy we get to do the activities together. Last night was movie night and we watched a classic -- Read More
Merry Making at Quriocity
Making ornaments with my kids during this time of year has become one of our much-anticipated family traditions. I enjoy it and treasure it simply because it helps add more life and meaning to our Christmas preparations. We all know how chaotic this season can be so setting aside a few hours to just sit down together as a family to make things with our hands, help us slow down and meaningfully savor it all somehow. So when Quriocity -- a one-of-a-kind space in Quezon City that encourages creativity and imaginative play -- reached out to me a few months back asking if I was interested in doing Read More
Little Makers at Hey Kessy Pottery
I always find my kids making things -- whether it be cardboard tube dolls, a shoebox spy gadget or a simple string of beads for accessories. It delights me and I support it. I admit, though, that encouraging them to be makers means I have to be okay with all the mess. I'm working on it, promise. At the same time, I'm also always on the lookout for ways to help cultivate their creativity not only at home but elsewhere. There's only so much I can teach them, really, and I'm discovering that learning new things alongside them makes for really memorable experiences. So every few weeks, we go on Read More
100 Days of Making
I'm happy to be part of this year's round of Elle Luna's #the100dayproject! It's my third time to play along and even if my last project took three times longer to complete (ikr?!?), I am not discouraged. Why, you say? It's because embarking on a daily creative activity like this one has done me so much good. #The100DayProject has allowed me to explore my artistry; challenged me to be creative with the time and materials available to me however limited; and let me discover and be inspired by many other artists and makers participating in the same project. Not only that, I also get to make Read More
WORKSHOP ROUND-UP
The first quarter of this year has been real fun for workshops! I haven't had the chance to blog about them so here's a round of the craft projects I've taught and classes I've held since the beginning of the year. JAN 21: New Year, New You I kicked off 2018 with a Creative Journaling Workshop with Maartsy. As part of their "New Year, New You" workshop series, they invited me to share my process on how to document life events and highlights in creative and practical ways. Journaling has very much worked for me the last few years and I think my days and weeks have become more meaningful Read More
