It has been raining more in Manila lately and nights are starting to get cooler. Although not consistent and some days can still be hot and sticky, we all sense the beginning of another season.
The other day, while enjoying the sound of trickling rain outside our bedroom window, I was inspired to doodle a little and make this artwork. I playfully put together things I enjoy about the rainy season and some of the things that remind me of it: raindrops, colorful umbrellas, freshly baked donuts, hot cocoa, juicy watermelons (keyword: water) and pages upon pages of books to read while curled up under the covers.
I know many in our country fear the rains and the trouble this season might bring. It’s understandable after having experienced the most horrifying typhoons in the past. But let us not forget that rain is also good. It is not always doom and gloom. God sends rain to cleanse, nourish and refresh. It is sent for us to enjoy.
So with outstretched arms, and thankful hearts, let us welcome the rain. Yes, let us always pray for safety and protection, but let us also play freely in its colors, and dance in its rhythm.
May we all have a wonderful and whimsical rainy season!
