The other day, I was staring at the cork board hanging on the wall near our kitchen and thought it really looked…boring. I’ve had it since I was a teenager and it has moved with me and Kayo from our first apartment to our current one, so it badly needs a makeover.
I was in the mood to paint so I thought I could easily make this board a little more exciting using some white paint I had stored. So I cleared my cork board and here’s how I decorated it:
1. Using masking tape, I created a pattern on the cork board by making diagonal stripes. I created zigzags and triangles by cutting the masking tape into little squares and sticking them on the board side by side, diagonally as well.
2. Once the entire board has been filled with pattern, I used white acrylic paint and painted on all the unmasked areas, making sure the paint is even.
3. After the board is all covered in paint, let it sit and dry. At least three hours will do.
4. When you think the paint has dried completely, gently peel off all the masking tape.
And there you have it. A fun, patterned cork board! Now it’s up to you what stuff you want to post on it. Ours is where we usually tack bills and important phone numbers. We also put some photos. To keep it looking fab, I decide to use only gold thumbtacks and then made little signs using a silver paint pen on black construction paper. So if your cork board at home or in your office is boring you, you don’t really have to buy a new one. Just mask it and paint it. Happy crafting!
