Right after making Summer her cardboard pizza, she immediately thought of other toys to make, specifically a doll house. But the next day, she changed her mind and asked me to make a little bed for her baby doll instead. I said okay. She was excited and insistent. Next thing I know, I was cutting up another box and doing my best to turn it into a tiny bed!
Materials I used are the following: Cardboard box, scissors, poster paint, felt sticker, fabric scraps, cardboard tube, washi tape, tongue depressors, glue gun, white glue and masking tape.
I didn’t take photos of the process but it’s basically half a cardboard box which I flipped inside out and painted white (I did most of this, but Summer helped with the painting). Of course I had to make sure it was just the right size for Summer’s doll. So I made one that was about 16 X 10 inches in size and five inches deep. I cut the ends of the box in such a way that it looks like it has a headboard and a footboard, similar to Summer’s own bed . I used some pink felt sticker as an inside lining and added tongue depressors to make bed posts. I also stuck purple felt flowers on it so it wouldn’t look so bare.
We had a couple of old torn up pillowcases at home that we don’t use anymore, so I folded it up and turned it into a cushion and a little blanket. I turned a piece of floral fabric scrap into a pillowcase and stuffed it with old nursing cloths to make it fluffy like a pillow.
Later that day, I attached feet under the bed using a cling wrap cardboard tube which I cut up into four short pieces and wrapped in pink washi tape. I also thought the headboard would look cuter with a little decor so I added a bigger felt flower on it.
Summer was ecstatic and immediately put her baby doll to sleep in her new bed, tucking her in nice and tight. I was happy to make it and glad that Summer loved it. That was another cardboard box put to good use!
Ooh! So cute! I want to make for Lexi! 🙂
