A Poem & A Shadowbox
You set fire to the freedom we built
While we’re home protecting our young
You threaten to shut us up, clamp us down
But we won’t cower, we’re not done

From the kitchen counter,
from the balcony,
From the nursery and the nightstand,
We will take our shots,
write down our rights,
our authority, our fight
We will launch our words into the darkness
From our windows at night
While we sing our lullabies
Let our light burn ever so bright

Because we won’t stop speaking
Our truths that you so terrorize
We will sing if we have to
Dance, make art, write poems,
Tell it to our children
Until every eye is open
To the real terror that is you
