I finally completed my 100 Day Project for this year and I enjoyed it so much that it makes me a little sad to end it.
Like what I’ve mentioned many times before, I like playing along this activity because it pulls me out of my comfort zone and gives me an opportunity to creatively express myself. 100 Tiny Collages did just that and more. I never thought I’d be able to bring to surface so many thoughts and ideas in my head through it. It turned out be way more than just cutting up magazines and gluing pictures together. It was introspective, revelatory as well as comforting.
Most of the collage themes come to me in the middle of making them, many of them reflect the mood or disposition I was in as I made them, and there are those that were put together to deliberately bring a very specific message across.
I tried not to overthink and simply go with the flow. Be in the moment. I allowed myself to use only up to three magazines at a time and not go over an hour on it each day. These little limitations I’ve set weren’t always fun but definitely pushed me to get more creative.
It was a joy making all 100 collages. So in celebration of its completion, I’ve decided to share the whole collection with everyone by putting together a small exhibit at Kendo Creative on September 1st. It’s called PAPEL AT PANDIKIT (Filipino for Paper and Glue) and will be an event all about collages!
A few other friends and collagists will be joining the exhibit to showcase their work. There will also be a 2-hour collage workshop and a mini paper fair — I’m talking postcards, stickers, bookmark and paper supplies! Admission is free and anyone and everyone is welcome to drop by.
The workshop, which requires pre-registration will run from 4 to 6pm. Participation fee is only Php 650 and is inclusive of all materials, access to various magazines and a cup of handcrafted coffee from our very own brew bar. It will be a very laid-back session where I will do my best to show how collage making became an enjoyable and also meaningful little art expression for me. Slots are limited so I hope you sign up as soon as you can through this link:
