BLUEBIRD (Colored Pencils) I had a tough week. A part of me is thrilled that it’s over but another part wishes it could go back so I could handle it differently. I’m sorry and ashamed to say that I acted as if the world was out to give me a hard time. I acted as if everything that went wrong was other people’s fault and not mine. Maybe it really wasn’t but also, maybe there’s really nobody to blame and things just don’t always turn out the way I want it to. Either way, the week is over and here I am. The baby is sleeping. My husband, who also had a full week, is out chilling with friends. Read More
The Man of Sorrows
But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. [Isaiah 53:5] Read More
14 + 14 = 28
So I turned 28 last week. I know it’s quite late to be posting a birthday entry now but this is my blog and I believe I can write anything I want when I want (hehe), so here goes… I like to celebrate my birthday by doing two things: thankfully remembering what has happened and looking hopefully to the future. In that way, the celebration is meaningful and exciting. So here’s a list of 14 things I’m most grateful for and 14 things I’m looking forward to this year. There’s a lot that I can think of but, hopefully, narrowing it down to this number will make it easier for me to write Read More
Weekend Snapshots #4: Beach Trip
Went on a trip to San Juan, La Union last weekend with my family. I decided to put the photos my husband and I took from my phone and Nikon digicam into a collage. Of course it’s mostly baby photos! I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Maybe I’ll even print this out and put it on my wall or something so I can keep the memory of the beach at home with me…or I’ll just keep going to the beach with my family, which we’ll most likely do! Suspension
ballpoint pen, colored pencils, color corrected on photoshop Very recently, at the wake of this hopeful year, I experienced disappointment, fear and sadness like I never have before. It didn’t last very long. You could say, I overcome. But at that dark moment, instead of letting the negative give birth to depression, I drew. Yes. I picked up a pen and drew. I actually haven’t done that in a long time because I almost always go digital, so the change was quite pleasant. What I created is not what I’d call awesome. It’s far from perfect but I’m pretty glad I did it. Somehow, the heaviness Read More
JAMES JEAN in Manila
I had the privilege of meeting ultra-talented illustrator/designer, James Jean last January 6 at a book signing and artist’s talk event put together by Fullybooked. My husband, Kayo, and I took advantage of the opportunity and had our books signed. I, personally, learned so much from his talk. He said so many things that were very enlightening to me as an artist and I came out of it inspired to keep making art even if I have no idea what I’m doing. "Abandon what works for you and do something uncomfortable…Work around the mistakes and let it lead the process…I hate the word style, it’s almost Read More

My Tiny Office Space (where creative magic happens)
Now that I have a baby, I’ve decided to work from home. I was able to work out an arrangement with my superiors in the company I’m working in and they lent me equipment. Yes, it is the old Apple G5. But hey, this machine gets my work done (slowly but surely - most of the time). I am quite happy with my new work set-up. I gladly rearranged our shoebox of a house to accommodate a tiny office space where I can continue making art (As you can see, it’s situated right beside the baby crib. Hehe.). Hopefully, I can soon steal some time to make art for this blog in between washing dishes, attending Read More
