It’s a major problem with “being yourself.” Happens all the time, happens every day. And it’s really nobody’s fault. Nothing about it is controllable on any large level that might matter. Or is it?
The problem with being yourself is that it takes so long to figure out who you actually are. There’s this myth that you’re supposed to have it figured out by the time you’re around 30 — a totally arbitrary number. For most people, this will be a lifelong search. You’ll find yourself looping back into things you thought that you had graduated from already or cresting hills you simply cannot see over the top of.
Why? Well, I think that this is because “who you are” is a moving target. Ever changing, ever growing, in evolution. Which is good. That means that you still have a choice as to who you are and who or what you will become. Destiny is a living, breathing animal.
And as when tracking or hunting any living target, you have to use all the senses in the process. Life leaves clues. So smell the air, observe for tracks, look for patterns, feel the warmth of fresh droppings. Coz, trust me, there will be crap along the trail. Then… listen. Above all, listen. Don’t speak. Be spoken to. And hear what is being said. Your moment of attack will come. Patience.
You’re not lost. You know who you are. You are the hunter.
