After spending the entire summer in the city, it was truly wonderful to have been able to take a break and visit the beach a couple of weeks back when we went to La Union for Social Media Day Northern Luzon.
Kayo was given the opportunity to participate by giving a talk on the current wave in social media. He decided to bring me and the girls along, stay the entire weekend and make a vacation out of it.
Here are the colorful highlights of our trip and some new discoveries in our favorite surf town:
Ridge To Reef
Natural, eco-friendly and charming. These are how I would describe the goods you’ll find at the Ridge to Reef Saturday market. A selection of different LU-based brands set up stalls once a month at the El Union Garden and sell their handmade and home grown products. Some of the brands regularly involved are Tali Ti Amianan, Promdisea, Barefoot Bakery, Aquanimous Yoga and many others!
Makai Bowls
These smoothie bowls are like sunshine you can eat! Packed with some of the most colorful and nutritious fruits and veggies, Makaibowls allows you to enjoy a healthy snack by combining different and interesting flavors — all fresh and natural. My kids loved the bright fuschia dragon fruit smoothie the most!

Seawadeeka
A very cute food mobile and and P80 for a decent serving of Nasi Goreng — OH YES!

New Flots
We got to stay in one of the newly opened Flotsam rooms! I can’t even begin to describe how cheerful and vibrant the interiors are, making this hostel an even more inviting place. Just color everywhere! And you know we’re such suckers for bright splashes of color! The girls were thrilled about staying there too, and making lots of new friends!

El Union
Need I say more? A visit to El Union is always a treat. It’s also great that they have an open space at the back, where the kids can play and explore — complete with grazing goats, chickens and fluttering butterflies!

Beach Time
We just can’t get enough of it! Being by the ocean, out in wide, open spaces just has this way of healing and curing the body and mind. It also gives a fresh surge of joy that may not be found elsewhere. I cherish our times together at the beach and I chose to take all that wonder, awe and life back with me to the city.
This town is a place brimming with color. It is also evolving. There is always something new to see and discover every time we visit. Really, LU does not get old.
Also, we may not always realize it, but there are many other shades and hues of blue, green, orange and yellow we have yet to see around us. Sometimes, all we need is to just get out, maybe drive some miles away, to discover them. It may cost us some money, some time, we’ll need to leave work behind and some people and most of our possessions, but when we get there, we realize, with a twinkle in our eyes and the sun on our faces that it’s all worth it.
